The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is to come to Cambridge this summer in the form of a special ‘highlights’ show. The show is also expected to feature many cast members from the original radio and TV series.

Based on Douglas Adams’s seminal comedy science fiction book, the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy sets out to find the answer to ‘life, the universe and everything’, encountering on its way some truly absurd and hilarious paradoxes which are themselves based on real-life scientific principles and philosophical debates (such as time-travel)

The show itself will be reproduced in the format of a radio broadcast, and will make full use of modern techniques such as surround sound to enhance the lively action. The audience is also promised the added thrill of encountering robots on stage.

Returning to his original role for the special production will be Simon Jones, who plays Arthur Dent, together with a whole host of both leading and supporting original cast members. These latter are expected to include: Geoffrey McGivern, who plays Ford Prefect; Stephen Moore as Marvin the Paranoid Android; Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox; and Susan Sheridan as Trillion.

There is also an added treat in that the voice of the talking guidebook will come from a number of different celebrities who are also expected to join the cast on stage.

The show, directed by Adams associate, Dirk Maggs, takes place at the Corn Exchange theatre on 16th and 17th July.
