The growing reliance on Cambridge hotels by city visitors
Visitors to Cambridge are becoming increasingly aware of the enormous amount there is to see and do in the city and surrounding areas. Given that a day trip is not usually sufficient to make the most of the large number of sights and attractions in Cambridge, hotels in the area are often sought after by visitors for the purposes of an extended stay.
For example, Cambridge University, which draws many visitors, actually consists of many colleges spread out across the city. Consequently, fitting in such sights as the beautiful and iconic King’s College Chapel and the stunning gardens of Newnham College, can be difficult to squeeze in along with the many other attractions in Cambridge.
Moreover, given that in Cambridge, taking a guided tour on one of the famous river Cam punts is often seen as a ‘must do’ activity (and, to tell the truth, this is in fact one of the best ways of learning about the city), the relaxed pace of such a trip does little to assist with the pressures of time in getting around Cambridge.
Hotels in the area also find that many visitors are now more aware of the rich array of world famous museums, galleries and historic visitor sites in and around Cambridge, and are therefore keen to somehow fit these in as well.
The Fitzwilliam museum, for example, houses a large number of invaluable collections including great works of art, whilst Anglesey Abbey, a former seventeenth century house, still displays the beautiful and eccentric collection of clocks once owned by the first Lord Fairhaven.
It must be said, however, that the increasing frequency with which Cambridge Hotels are being booked up by visitors is also at least partly likely to be down to the welcome service and recuperation offered by these establishments.
