Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will visit Cambridge on 8th February, for a combination of charity and medical engagements.
Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, in her capacity as patron of homeless charity, Emmaus, will be visiting the latter’s properties in Landbeach, including its accommodation areas, coffee shop, electrical workshop, and warehouse.
Commenting on the visit, the community director of Emmaus Cambridge, Simon Grainge, said that he hoped the Duchess’s support for the charity and its residents
‘will encourage other people to visit our Landbeach warehouse just off the A10’
The Duchess will also be paying a visit to the Cambridge Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility at Addenbrooke’s hospital, where she will meet with type 1 diabetic children participating in clinical trials funded by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
JDRF chief executive, Karen Addington, said that the Duchess’s visit
‘will help to highlight how this challenging and serious autoimmune condition, which is unfortunately misunderstood, affects thousands of children and adults across the UK’
Part of this visit will also involve the Duchess speaking with Cambridge University researchers who are currently engaged in developing an artificial pancreas for diabetes 1 sufferers, as well as working on preventative treatments for the condition.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles will be paying a visit to Madingley Hall. There he will meet with visiting head-teachers in honour of the tenth anniversary of The Prince’s Teaching Institute – a charity of which he is president.
